Peter Tom-Petersen
(Danish, 1861-1926)

Tomb of Pius VII Chiaramoti, 1882

Pen and ink wash on laid paper (watermarked C&I Honig), 9 x 10 in. (23 x 25.5 cms)
Signed "Tom-Petersen/1882", lower right

A student of Leon Bonnat and of Peder Severin Krøyer, Tom-Petersen was an award-winning graduate of The Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen.  He exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally, including at Malmö, Paris, Munich and Brighton.

Our pen and wash drawing is a superb academic record of Bertel Thorvaldsen's monument in St. Peter's, Rome.  To the left is the Allegory of Faith, to the right, that of Wisdom.
