Cornelis Steffelaar was a pupil of Johannes Baptist Kobell II. He traveled to Belgium in 1823 and to Germany in 1836. Among his pupils were A.J. Eymer, Wouterus Verschuur and Jan Weissenbruch.

Our poetic sheet reprises the theme of the farmhouse, beloved by Dutch artists for centuries, from Brueghel and Rembrandt to the present day.
