Felix Russmann studied at the National Academy of Design and at the Munich Royal Academy under von Stück. He worked in the studio of Albert Pinkham Ryder at Tiffany and Company. From the 1910's to the 1940's, he exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Academy of Design and The John Herron School. In 1918, Russmann was the recipient of the National Academy's Hallgarten Prize, and in 1944, was awarded the Ellen P. Speyer Memorial Prize by the National Academy.
