Standing Figure of St Paul

Pen and Ink and Brown Wash with Touches of Pink and Yellow Wash on Paper
6-7/8 x 4-1/8 in. (17.5 x 10.5 cm.)

Provenance:
The Majowsky Collection, St. Paul (as Lucas Cranach)

Our beautifully-preserved drawing, characteristic of the Northern Renaissance, represents the standing figure of St. Paul, identified by his attributes of sword and book. Although once attributed to Lucas Cranach I, our imposing figure would seem more likely to derive from the workshop of Albrecht Altdorfer or Wolf Huber.
